Soccer continues win streak against Lamar

The Texas State soccer team extended its winning streak to four games with a 3-0 shutout against Lamar University.

The Bobcats are 4-0-1 through five games for the first time in Coach Kat Conner’s 16-year tenure with Texas State.

Kassi Hormuth, freshman forward, put the Bobcats ahead with a goal in the 13th minute. Hormuth has scored three goals in five games this season.

“Coming into the game we were just focused on getting another win,” Hormuth said. “It feels awesome to be off to this start.”

Soccer extends winning streak to four games

The Texas State soccer team extended their winning streak to four games as they shutout Lamar, 3-0. The Bobcats are 5-0-1 all-time against Lamar and have only allowed one goal.
 
Kassi Hormuth, freshman forward, scored her second career goal in the 13th minute along with four shots on goal.
 
Landry Lowe, junior midfielder, and Lauren Prater, sophomore forward, scored their first goals of the season.  
 
Caitlyn Rinehart, junior goalkeeper, had five saves for the night and played the entire 90 minutes.
 
The Bobcats' next game will be against TCU Sept., 12

Texas State prepares to face Lamar Cardinals

The Texas State soccer team’s three-game winning streak will be on the line when it travels Sept. 5 to play against the Lamar Cardinals.

The Bobcats have met with the Cardinals five times prior to Friday’s match, leading the series with a 3-0-1 record. Texas State won 2-0 in their previous meeting in 2011.

The Bobcats are coming off of back-to-back home victories this past weekend against Texas A&M at Corpus Christi and Northwestern State, while the Cardinals are coming off a home loss against North Texas.

This past weekend the Bobcats combined for 44 total shots, with 17 of them on goal.

Bobcats defeat Lady Demons in 3-0 shutout at home

The Texas State soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout on Sunday against the Northwestern State Lady Demons, extending the season winning streak to three games.

The Bobcats defeated the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Friday night, 2-0, in the first all-time meeting between the teams.

Texas State has allowed one goal in four games, with three shutouts.

“We talked to our players about coming out and regrouping and making sure that we had the same intensity we did on Friday night,” Coach Kat Conner said. “I thought they did a great job. They came out and scored in the first 40-seconds, that’s doing it. That’s being mentally checked in with the physical,  and I’m really proud of them on that.”

Soccer defeats Northwestern State, extends winning streak

The Texas State soccer team defeated the Northwestern State Lady Demons, 3-0, in the team's 25th all-time meeting. The Bobcats are 15-8-3 against the Lady Demons.

Texas State extended their season winning streak to three games this season.

Tori Hale, senior forward, extended her streak to three consecutive games with a goal. Hale's goal in the first minute was assisted by Lynsey Curry, junior forward. Hale, in her first season transitioning from outside midfielder to forward, leads the team in goals, shots and shots on goal this season.

Soccer defeats Texas A&M Corpus Christi in home opener

The Texas State soccer team defeated the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders Friday night, 2-0, in the first all-time meeting between the teams. The Bobcats have allowed one goal this season, with two shutouts. 

Tori Hale, senior forward, scored her second goal in three games in the 12th minute, assisted by Jourdan Brown, senior midfielder. Kassi Hormuth, freshman forward, recorded her second goal of her career in the 60th minute.

Hale and Hormuth have accounted for all four goals this season.

The Bobcats dominated time of possession as they outshot the Islanders 8-1 in the first half and 22-4 in the game, with eight shots on goal.

The Bobcats, 2-0-1 overall, return to action on Sunday against Northwestern State at 1 p.m. 

Bobcats to face Islanders Friday in first home game of season

The Texas State soccer team is coming off of a 2-1 victory over New Mexico State University as the Bobcats turn their attention to their home opener against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.

The Bobcats will host the Islanders Friday, who are coming off a 3-0 victory over Texas Southern. They will play Northwestern State’s team, which is following a 3-0 loss to Louisiana-Monroe, on Sunday.

Ali Myers, senior midfielder, stressed the importance of defensive cohesiveness. As long as the defensive backline is balanced and pressures the opponent, players can prevent counter-attacks and other scoring opportunities.

Ali Myers, senior midfielder, patrols the middle of the soccer field, maintaining her defensive line and creating chances for her teammates.

It’s a seamless transition—offense to defense, defense to offense—that she must make every game.

Myers’ ability to scan the field comes from, in large part, her photography background. Myers, a communication studies major with a minor in business, plans on traveling for six months to build her portfolio.

Soccer opens season with tie against UTEP

The Texas State soccer team opened the season on the road Friday against Texas-El Paso with a double overtime draw 0-0.

Caitlynn Rinehart, junior goalkeeper, had two saves, including one in the 106th minute of game. UTEP tallied eight shots, while the Bobcats had five shots. Each team had two shots on goal.

Tori Hale, senior forward, led the Bobcats with two shots, one on goal, while Maddie Nichols, sophomore midfielder, had a shot on goal. Ali Jones, sophomore midfielder, and Chandler Cooney, freshman defender, each contributed shots as well.

Texas State Soccer Season Preview

The Texas State soccer team is gearing up for its 2014 run in the Sun Belt Conference as it looks to take the next step toward another NCAA Tournament appearance.

Texas State, the conference’s fourth seed, defeated Troy in overtime in the first tournament game last season. The top-seeded Western Kentucky Hilltoppers eliminated the Bobcats in the second round. The team finished the season with an 8-9-2 overall record and a 4-3-1 conference record.
