Talk It Out: Raising the minimum wage is a no-brainer

Minimum wage is just that—a minimum wage—and it’s not enough anymore.

 

The reason we have a minimum wage here in America is so people will be able to provide for their families no matter where they are on the socioeconomic ladder. Minimum wage has been raised to adjust with inflation many times throughout history. The United States is due for another one of these raises.

State government should not overstep cities’ rights

Politicians lie to us.

 

Throughout the last election cycle many candidates, like our new Governor Greg Abbott, talked about local control and states’ rights. “Local control” is a term meaning city officials have the right to make laws for their cities.

After being elected many of these people changed their attitudes on local control. In Nov. 2014 the city of Denton banned fracking through a citywide vote. This was a great measure taken by Denton because it combines pure democracy with an environmentally friendly law.

Satirical news shows have become more informative than traditional sources

It’s all fun and games until somebody actually learns something.

Shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are becoming increasingly popular.  According to Pew Research, these two shows rank highest among 18-29 year olds compared to all other news shows. However, many question whether these news programs should be taken as seriously as other news providers.
