San Marcos Farmer's Market creates community relationships

Students and San Marcos residents gather every Tuesday and Saturday to stock up on fresh produce at the local farmer’s market in The Square.

The market runs on Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vendors include farmers, producers, gardeners, craftsmen and other community organizations.

Ellie Gillis, River Bottom Farms salesperson, said customers must have an environment where they can create personal relationships with vendors and their neighbors while they shop.

Campus resources help students stay ahead

With the spring semester in full swing, students all over campus are transitioning from the relaxation of winter break to the rigor of classes, with many searching for campus resources to help them in their academic efforts.

The majority of these resources is covered by student fees and requires no additional cost, which makes excelling during the academic year easier.

The Student Learning Assistance Center (SLAC), a tutoring center located on the fourth floor of Alkek library that covers subjects such as math, science, business and writing, is a popular resource available to students

SLAC also offers Supplemental Instruction sessions for designated classes, which gives students the ability to receive additional help outside of their scheduled lecture times.

San Marcos’ first LGBTQIA bar fosters welcoming environment

San Marcos’ first and only LGBTQIA bar has delivered a full schedule of events since opening in December.

San Marcos’s recent expansion has contributed to a significant increase in the city’s LGBTQIA population. Stonewall Warehouse seeks to create a fun and safe environment for the everyone.

Tabetha Mumford, Stonewall bartender, said the bar provides a diverse atmosphere when it comes to gender, race and age.

“Some people come dressed in fancy suits while others have on sweats, so it’s definitely diverse in many ways,” Mumford said. “All visitors are not a part of the gay community, but Stonewall offers a setting where anyone and everyone can be themselves and feel safe doing so.”

All Black Everything

My friends are always complaining and making fun of me because every time we go somewhere or have a girl’s night out, chances are I’m wearing black.

Some people feel like certain colors don’t look good against their skin tone or that they just don’t wear a particular color well. However, black is a color that I have seen looking good on almost everyone.

Don't Overlook Thrift Stores

Have you ever heard the phrase "history repeats itself”? Well, ironically, fashion repeats itself as well. The same clothes that your parents wore in those back-in-the-day pictures are slowly but surely coming back in style today.

Most “old-school” styles that are coming back can be found in local thrift shops. Jerseys, sweatshirts and all forms of denim that you can think of are all items that most thrift shops carry.

Fall is arriving and so is better clothing options

The season is changing, and fall is slowly but surely creeping up on us. Although as Texans we won't experience any major temperature drops just yet, we can still prepare our closets.

Fall is definitely the best season, and even more so when it comes to fashion. It's not too hot and it's not too cold, which gives you plenty of versatility when putting together your outfits.

There are tights, boots, scarves, oversized sweaters and so much you can work with.

MTV's Video Music Awards Fashion Do's and Don'ts

MTV’s Video Music Awards aired last Sunday, August 24, 2014. Although the focus of the show is mainly on the artist and their music, fashion played a significant role as well.

Upon watching the award show, I saw many gorgeous and not-so-gorgeous red carpet fashions. I was inspired and disappointed all in a matter of about three hours.

Let’s start off with the women’s fashion.

Don’t Sweat It: Beat the Heat and Still Look Hot

With temperatures at an all time high, plus being residents of central Texas, it’s difficult to decide what clothes are appropriate and comfortable for life on campus. With the heat at an all-time high, the stairs seemingly never ending and the hills getting steeper by the minute, what do you wear?
