Expectations rising for Kohl during her sophomore season

Jordan Kohl, sophomore right side hitter, finished last season with 84 kills in her last seven games.

Kohl averaged 3.65 kills per set, which would have put her in the top five of the conference if she sustained that pace for the entire season. She was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year.

Prior to this season, Kohl added another honor to her list with an appearance on the All-Sun Belt Conference first-team. She was the only player from Texas State to make the team.

But Kohls’ accolades come with more expectations.

"I'm not going to lie to you I haven't had pressure (on) me," Kohl said. "I knew that coming in whenever I heard that I was All-SBC preseason, it was nothing that I'm too worried about as long as I just play my game of volleyball."

Kohl's approach to each game involves pouring over the statistics and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.

"I go over our stats and I would go over the roster and what position everyone is and what their strengths and weaknesses are and just have it mentally in my head," Kohl said. "So that whenever I get on to the court I can point what this person does and what this person doesn't do and stay calm and focused."

However, even with the achievements and her volleyball insight, Kohl doesn't feel ready to take on the responsibility of the leadership role.

"I honestly don't see myself as one just because I know that it's a really big role to take," Kohl said. "I wouldn't want to disappoint my teammates in such a big role as a leader, but when there's time that I need to take control of the court and say what we need to do and what we need to fix that's when I'll come in."

While the leadership role is one that Kohl can't see herself in, her teammates firmly believe in her scoring ability and how she contributes to the team.

"They want me to be the terminator of the team, which is something I really would not want to be but then again it's a privilege to be called that," Kohl said. "They know that they can count on me to get the job done when I need to."

For this current volleyball season, Kohl's goals for herself are remain higher than ever.

"Last year I got second team all-conference so this year I'm really striving for first team," Kohl said. "If I get second team again I'll be completely content with that but I mean go hard or go home."
