Double-shooting suspect found dead in Lockhart

Cyrus Louis Amaya, 21, the suspect wanted for a double-shooting killing one and leaving another injured last week, was found dead today in a Lockhart home.

Hays County SWAT, the San Marcos Police Department (SMPD), the Hays County Crisis Negotiation Team and the Hays County Narcotics Task Force attempted to serve two outstanding arrest warrants on Amaya this morning at approximately 10 a.m., at a residence in 1000 block of Commerce Street in Lockhart.

Amaya’s arrest warrants were obtained on Wednesday for Amaya’s connection in the Jan. 12 shooting. The warrants were to charge Amaya with capital murder and attempted capital murder, according to SMPD.

The shootings took place on Jan. 12 at approximately 11:15 p.m. at the Townwood Apartment Complex in the 500 block of Linda Lane.

When SMPD arrived they found Earl Edward Clark dead with multiple gunshot wounds in the common area of the Townwood Apartment Complex. Jay Ryan Guerrero was found shot “several times” and taken to a Central Texas trauma hospital. Guerrero has since been released, according to SMPD.

SMPD says the victims met with Amaya to deliver narcotics. Amaya is believed to have taken the victims down a sidewalk to a secluded area to “possibly rob the victims of money and drugs.”  This is where the shooting took place, according to SMPD.

After officers tried to communicate with Amaya for approximately two and a half hours, officers from the Austin Police Department Bomb Squad then sent a robot inside the home. Amaya was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to SMPD.

Both investigations are ongoing.
