SWAT standoff ends with apprehension of suspect at local hotel

The Hays County-San Marcos SWAT team arrested a Canyon Lake man Tuesday after he barricaded himself in a room at the Comfort Suites hotel off Interstate Highway 35.

Reggie David Vine, 32, was charged with probation violation, according to a press release from the City of San Marcos. Vine was also charged with criminal mischief under $20,000 for damages to the hotel room in which he barricaded himself.

Police officers responded to a call from hotel management at about 8 a.m. requesting help with an unruly guest who had extensively damaged the room in which he was staying. Officers found Vine barricaded in his room upon arrival, according to the press release.

The SWAT and Hays County Crisis Negotiation teams arrived on the scene around 9:30 a.m. Comfort Suites and some nearby businesses were evacuated soon after.

Negotiators were in contact with Vine until about 1 p.m. when he discontinued discussions with the team, the release said. The SWAT team entered the hotel room shortly after and extracted Vine.

Although it is not yet known if Vine was armed, ammunition was found in the room where he had barricaded himself. Vine suffered minor injuries during the incident and was taken to Hays County Law Enforcement Center for booking.

Vine was on probation for a felony evading arrest charge in Tarrant County, according to the press release.
