Explosive found near Fort Hood, detonated by bomb squad

An improvised explosive device was found adjacent to Fort Hood Thursday morning, prompting evacuation of the area.

A suspicious device was found taped to a red truck at Hoover and Gray Streets in Killeen. The owner of the vehicle reported the device to police at around 9 a.m. after his friend saw it, took a photo and sent it to him, a Killeen police official told the Austin American-Statesman. Residents of the neighborhood were evacuated to the Killeen Community Center as a bomb squad investigated the situation and detonated the device.

There is no known connection to Wednesday's shooting at Fort Hood and the explosive device, according to police.
